Biocomp Nepal Successfully Implements Environmental and Social Management Plan at Simara Plastic Recycling Factory

Biocomp Nepal has successfully implemented a comprehensive environmental and social management plan for its new plastic recycling facility in the special economic zone in Simara, marking a significant milestone in Nepal's circular economy development.

The state-of-the-art recycling factory, which began operations in early 2025, represents a major advancement in Nepal's fight against plastic pollution. The facility processes plastic waste collected from mountain rivers and urban areas, transforming it into composite boards which are a valuable contribution to sustainable construction in Nepal.

"Our environmental and social management plan demonstrates our commitment to responsible manufacturing while addressing Nepal's pressing waste management challenges," said Maarten Nijhof, CEO of Biocomp Nepal. The plan encompasses comprehensive measures to minimize environmental impact while maximizing social benefits for local communities.

The Simara facility's environmental management framework includes advanced waste processing technologies designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, proper waste segregation protocols, and water management systems that protect local water resources. The facility ensures consistent, high-quality output while maintaining strict environmental standards.

Central to the social management component is Biocomp's commitment to inclusive employment practices. The company has prioritized hiring women and youth from local communities, providing comprehensive training in occupational health and safety. All staff members receive personal protective equipment and are covered by health and accident insurance, creating a safe and secure working environment that contrasts sharply with traditional waste management practices in the region.

With the Simara facility now operational, Biocomp Nepal continues to expand its impact across the country, demonstrating how social enterprises can effectively combine environmental stewardship with community development to create lasting positive change.
